At NZBS, our journalism students don't wait to start telling stories they're learning the fundamentals and reporting news early on. From live radio bulletins,  social media content, and online articles, our students learn how a multimedia newsroom works and put it into practice across radio, screen, and digital platforms. Being able to tell stories in all formats is vital in today's media landscape.

Students learn news recognition, gathering, research and writing, presenting and interviewing skills, news and documentary production, social media and short-form video, media law and ethics, and how to deal with disinformation. First year covers the fundamentals of news gathering and context, while second year builds on these foundations with more advanced skills and real-world experience.

Through multimedia storytelling and real newsroom work, students gain the skills, confidence, and experience to succeed as journalists.
